Insects & Spiders On Stage: A Theater and Science Program
About the Program
In this ten session residency, Everybody Act! Teaching Artists visit classrooms to work with students and teachers to create and perform an original short play on the theme of insects and spiders.Session 1: Introduction/Theme/Sound & Movement
- Students listen to residency goals.
- Students access prior knowledge to identify what an insect or spider is.
- Students participate in a sound and movement activities to explore potential characters
Session 2: Characters, Plot, & Tableau
Students experience of the plot they will dramatize.
Students discuss the main idea, plot, setting, characters, and feelings of the story.
Students create tableaux of main events of the story.
Session 3: Improvisation & Dialogue
Students build on tableaux created during session 2
Students create character walks.
Session 4: Stage Directions & Blocking
Students improvise key scenes in the play.
Students create original dialogue
Session 5: STORY THEATRE
Students improvise the entire story in sequence by combining what they have learned in previous Sessions on pantomime, movement, improvisation, and dialogue.
Session 6:
Students learn specific stage directions to the play.
Session 7: REHEARSAL
Students rehearse the play, stopping when they need help.
Session 8: Rehearsal: Entrance & Exit/Curtain Call
Students practice entering and exiting stage.
Students practice taking a curtain call.
Students rehearse play on stage without stopping.
Session 9: DRESS REHEARSAL
Students perform play for fellow students.
Session 10: PERFORMANCE DAY
Students perform play for fellow students.
